Assignment: Putting all the leadership approached
I chose to combine elements that resonated with me the most from three leadership models into a Venn diagram: emotional intelligence (EI), transformation leadership (TL), and adaptive leadership (AL). EI allows one to understand their values, learn to motivate oneself through listening and reflecting, leading to having a positive world view. TL moves the focus from the leader to the follower. The key elements from TL for me are building an environment of trust and innovation, the leading with charisma and integrity, and communicating expectations. AL stood out to me the most because it talked about how the leader should have technical know-how, the leader should take a step back to gain a broader perspective. AL should identify the challenge that can be solved by the followers all in a safe and compassionate environment.
My model focuses on the overlapping aspects. EI and TL both build mature and high-quality relationships. TL and AL grow an inspirational figure and a coach. AL and EI emphasize that it is important to take healthy risks. Overall, my model concentrates on developing the leader’s emotional intelligence first and then prioritizing the follower through transformational and adaptive techniques.
